Bentley Carr was born in the South Devon town of Totnes and, after having served for nine trouble-free years in the Royal Corps of Signals, he finally settled in Worcester, where he worked as a truck driver and spent most of his spare time as lead guitarist in a local rock band.
In 1981 he moved to Birmingham, and it was here that he started writing bed-time stories for his children, Kristian and Samantha, who were then 7 and 6 years of age. It was while on holiday near Beddgelert, North Wales, that the idea for “The Gateway of Time” arose. Two sequels have already been written.
Bentley Carr now lives in Malvern, Worcestershire. Having retired from his life as a truck driver, he spends much of his day (when not writing) working on home improvements. For relaxation he enjoys watching DVDs, or occasionally following speedway and snooker on TV. Eating out is also high on his list of indulgences.
A keen movie fan, he cites “Shenandoah” as his favourite film (and James Stewart his favourite actor), with “The Lord Of The Rings” trilogy running a close second. Rock ‘n’ roll, classical, and 60s/70s pop are high on his list when it comes to music (although he’ll listen to almost anything), with a particular fondness for The Beatles, Queen, The Bee Gees, and The Eagles.
As for books, J.R.R Tolkien and J.K Rowling are firm favourites.
